And when finally, FINALLY, these brats in adult’s bodies were on speaking term… one of them fucking died! At Gintoki’s own hand! Bloody dammit this show!īut what I was trying to say is… dramatic as joui3′s story is, it kinda resembles some of our real-life friendship. They screamed anguish more painful than any wound blades could inflict. Slash, stab, a few limbs would have gone flying if not for plot amour. Oh no, they became mortal enemies and would probably skewer each other on sight. 10 years passed, they reunited, but not as friends(except for Katsura and Gintoki). Something happened and that tie was irreversibly damaged. Imagine that kind of bond then one day they just… broke off. Then friend-to-friend camaraderie turned into absolute trust, of people who entrust their own lives to other comrades to fight side-by-side on battlefields, “your life is my life” kind of thing. They shared the same school, same spirit, same teacher… It was just the good old days and when tragedy struck, all 3 went to war. They have known each other since young, shitty brats with the attitude of a mower.

These punky adults are living in my head rent-free. so make it casual and integrated, but make sure it makes sense. will have an effect on their life and who they are. someone's ethnicity, gender orientation, sexuality, abilities, etc. casual diversity doesn't mean making white, cishet, abled characters and then slapping on some roles. In other words, don't make a stereotype an entire personality. for example, i know way too many asian guys who are geniuses. but while you shouldn't make somebody's entire personality based on a stereotype, that doesn't mean that somebody can't fall into a stereotyped category. you know what i'm talking about - the sassy black girl, the asian guy who's good at math, the badass latina. for the love of god, please don't fall into stereotypes.so how should it feel? effortless to the reader. a bonus for poc: and if it's set in somewhat modern or semi-modern times, immigration is a huge part of society - it's a major driving force in propelling a society and/or economy forward. there will be disabled and handicapped individuals. also, it's not possible for every person in a single species to be perfectly capable of absolutely everything. any country/region in the world is diverse - there can't just one single ethnicity/identity for an entire world. Well, apart from the fact that (marginalised and/or minority) people will feel seen and represented, diversity helps keep your story realistic.

We know they're poc/lgbtq+/disabled, but the plot doesn't revolve around it - the diversity doesn't affect what actually happens in the book, it's just there. within that main group, whose arc the reader is following, there are poc, lgbtq+, and disabled characters. everybody believes it to be fact, but a group of people are trying to prove that it's not, and the world is perfectly fine (very random i know). Let's say you have a fantasy story that revolves around a prophecy that says the world is doomed. i once saw somebody define it as "diversity that's part of everyday life". Casual diversity is where the cast in the given piece of art/media is diverse, but the piece itself doesn't center around diversity.
